Professor of Management, University of York

I teach and research management, leadership and sociology of work. I am predominantly interested in professional work, including the work and expertise of white-collar and uniformed professions. I have written about middle managers in corporate, health and military settings. I am also interested in historical analysis of the rise of 'management' as a profession in itself, particular during the Kennedy-Johnson era in U.S. history and society. Conceptually, I locate my working within the traditions of CMS - critical management studies.
