Leonie is part of the Information Security discipline in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at QUT. She is a senior lecturer and teaches information security and cryptography at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Leonie is particularly interested in symmetric cryptography used to secure information transmissions - providing confidentiality and assurance that the messages have not been modified during transmission. Authenticated encryption - providing both of these things simultaneously - is a hot topic right now. She has a PhD from QUT in the field of symmetric cryptography (more particularly, on stream ciphers).

She's also passionate about information security and how the things we do make us (and others) more or less vulnerable to cyber threats.
