Doctoral candidate, University of York

Lindsay Porter is an AHRC-funded doctoral candidate in the department of History at the University of York, researching popular rumour and public opinion during the French Revolution.

Prior to returning to academia, she worked as a writer, editor and researcher, and is the author of Assassination: A History of Political Murder (Thames & Hudson, 2010) and Who are the Illuminati? (Collins & Brown, 2005), a history of conspiracy beliefs, and contributed to American Conspiracy Theories: An Encyclopedia (ABC-Clio: 2001). She has appeared at the Oxford Literature Festival and in 2013 was shortlisted for the BBC radio 3/AHRC New Generation of Thinkers scheme.
