Lindsay Porter was an AHRC-funded doctoral candidate in the department of History at the University of York, researching popular rumour and public opinion during the French Revolution.

She also works as a writer, editor and researcher, and is the author of Assassination: A History of Political Murder (Thames & Hudson, 2010) and Who are the Illuminati? (Collins & Brown, 2005), a history of conspiracy beliefs, and contributed to American Conspiracy Theories: An Encyclopedia (ABC-Clio: 2001). She has appeared at the Oxford Literature Festival and in 2013 was shortlisted for the BBC radio 3/AHRC New Generation of Thinkers scheme.
