I research and teach the history of capitalism and the early republic United States. My most recent article "Industrial Manifest Destiny: American Firearms Manufacturing and Antebellum Expansion," was published in Business History Review, and my book manuscript, "Manufacturing Advantage: War, the State, and the Origins of American Industry, 1776-1848"--a history of the arms and textiles industries in the context of early U.S. national security--is under contract with Johns Hopkins University Press.
