Lisa Vetten is a former Honorary Research Associate, Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WiSER) at the University of the Witwatersrand. She holds a master's degree in political studies (cum laude) obtained from the same university where she is also a PhD candidate at present. A long time activist for women's rights in the non-profit sector, she has helped draft policy in this area for government departments, as well as appeared as an expert witness in cases involving violence against women. Her research interests include gender and violence, the criminal justice system, state and civil society relations and South Africa's movement to end violence against women.
