Lochran is an ecologist and conservation biologist based at John Moores University in the United Kingdom - and holds an Honorary Affiliation with the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He received a PhD from the University of Adelaide, Australia (2009) and was previously a Marie Curie Fellow at Imperial College London (2011-13). He has been mentored by world-leading scientists and has published in top journals, including Nature, PNAS and Ecology Letters.

Lochran has a research interest in tropical conservation science, with a focus on large African mammals. He is an Associate Editor for the African Journal of Wildlife Research, a Review Editor for the journal Endangered Species Research, and was previously an Associate Member of the F1000 (Theoretical Ecology).
