Professor of Counselling & Mental Health, York St John University

Lynne is Professor of Counselling and Mental Health at York St John University and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Lynne is also a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited and Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Lynne's main qualifications relate to the field of mental health; a field she is passionate about. They include research awards (doctoral and masters level) and practitioner awards (including training in counselling and psychotherapy, teaching, and supervision of practitioners).

Lynne is Founder and Director of York St John’s public-facing Counselling and Mental Health Centre, leading on the provision of high quality psychological therapies and mental health services, alongside innovation of research projects on interventions for adults, adolescents and children. The Centre is currently engaged with IDAS (a UK specialist domestic violence agency), researching group interventions for children exposed to domestic abuse situations. The Centre offers a specialist bereavement service and is working with Teeside Hospice to test a new bereavement scale, AGES (Assimilation of Grief Experiences Scale), and with Scarborough Survivors, to develop a bereavement service for hard to reach and deprived areas of North Yorkshire. The Centre offers a range of accessible and online services underpinned by core values of inclusivity, accessibility, collaboration, and creativity. All services and work is delivered by students and staff.

Following establishment of the York Centre, Lynne founded the Research & Training Clinic Consortium (RTCC) bringing together clinics and centres in several HEIs (Abertay, Newman, Salford, York St John; Roehampton University in the process of joining RTCC) with the express aim of developing the evidence base for integrative and pluralistic psychological therapies and creating meaningful research opportunities for staff, students, agencies and partners.
