Dr M. Reza Hosseini is an accomplished academic, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in Construction Management at Deakin University. He is also a research fellow of the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) and the deputy leader of the Mediated Intelligence in Design research laboratory. With a background in Civil Engineering, an MSc in Construction Engineering and Management, and a PhD in virtual design and construction, Dr Hosseini's expertise lies in digital engineering and circular construction. He appears in the top 2% of researchers in 2021 and has contributed significantly to the field, publishing around 240 papers and book chapters on various aspects of sustainable construction engineering.
Dr Hosseini's work has made a significant impact on sustainable construction project delivery, particularly around scarce resources. He has collaborated with prominent researchers in the field to bring attention to the use of reverse logistics in the construction context. Dr Hosseini was among the pioneers of this topic in the construction industry, and his work has led to significant advancements in the field of circular construction. For example, as one of the lead investigators in the first Zero Waste SA-funded project, Dr Hosseini explored the applicability of reverse logistics and closed-loop chain concepts within the construction context. This project was among the first of its kind in Australia, and the outcomes provided new insights into the reuse of materials and products in the construction industry landscape. The project resulted in 13 publications and positioned Deakin University among the top 285 universities worldwide influencing literature on reverse logistics.
More recently, Dr Hosseini has been involved in developing the report "The Circular Economy in the Australian Built Environment: The State of Play and a Research Agenda" and several journal articles that provide an updated picture of the state of adoption of circular economy in the Australian construction industry. Dr Hosseini's work is not limited to academia, as he has also been an active member of various industry organizations, including the board of directors for Project Management Institute (PMI) Adelaide chapter, the Victoria-based members of board of directors for the America Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in Australia, and the Academic Interoperability Coalition (AiC), which launched a Body of Knowledge (BOK) for BIM in the US. Dr Hosseini is the founder and leader of the Australian BIM Academic Forum (ABAF) and has worked closely with major universities in Australia in developing BIM guidelines and standards to promote the adoption of BIM across the Australian construction industry. Dr Hosseini's significant contributions to the field of sustainable construction engineering and his involvement in various industry organisations make him a highly regarded academic and industry leader.
