Malu Villela

I research how organisations pursue social, democratic, and environmental values in order to improve themselves and the wider ecosystem in which they operate. I have conducted research on B Corps, employee-owned businesses, community anchor organisations, and different forms of social enterprises.

My current research investigates community-led initiatives that are building progressive and resilient solutions to social and environmental challenges in the UK. I am interested in the negotiations that happen between the community and the institutional levels and how such initiatives promote changes that will pave the way for a wider transition towards an inclusive and sustainable economy.
