I have worked with children and young people in various capacities within education for the last eighteen years and have taught in both the primary and post-compulsory sectors. I was Senior Lecturer in Education at Staffordshire University for many years where I led and taught on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and undertook research supervision for masters and doctoral students. I am currently Head of Department for Children and Families at University of Worcester where I have been since 2019.
I am interested in children’s participatory rights and the extent to which children and young people participate in various aspects of social life. My doctoral research focused on children's participation in child protection interventions and I have also developed a strong interest in the ethics of research with children which has arisen primarily from the ethically sensitive nature of my own doctoral research project and the dilemmas encountered within it.
