PhD candidate, University of Newcastle

Mandy Stefanakis lectured in music education at Deakin University and was previously Director of Music at Christ Church Grammar School. She has taught music at pre-school, primary and post-primary levels and also lectured in music education at the University of Melbourne where she obtained her Master of Education. She worked for many years in the Curriculum and Development section of the Department of Education and continues to contribute to curriculum resources for them. She is a Life Member of the Association of Music Educators (aMuse) and a member of the Advisory Council of The Music Trust and the Music in Australia Knowledge Base. She is the author of 'Turn it Up!' a set of music education kits focusing on Australian music published by McGraw-Hill and has published many other articles. She conducts extensive interviews with contemporary Australian musicians and film-makers for the National Film and Sound Archive and loves composing when she has the time. She is completing a PhD at the University of Newcastle investigating the composers' concepts of self from a phenomenological perspective.
