CEO/Adjunct Professor, Victoria University

Marcia Devlin AM is CEO of the Victorain Academy of Teaching and Leadership and an Adjunct Professor at Victoria University in Melbourne, and an Honorary Professor at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Previously, she was: Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President at Victoria University; Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education at RMIT University; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Quality) at Federation University Australia; and Executive Director at Open Universities Australia.

Prior to this, Marcia held academic appointments at RMIT University, the University of Western Sydney, the University of Melbourne and Deakin University. Areas of particular expertise include equity, university learning, teaching and assessment, online/digital education, quality assurance and enhancement, academic integrity, student engagement, retention and success, leadership, including women in leadership and governance. She has won over $6 million in funding and given over 200 headline addresses in 11 countries. She publishes extensively in academic outlets as well as in print and online media and her work is widely read and highly cited.

In 2023, Marcia was awarded an Order of Australia for significant service to higher education and to women.

Professor Devlin has been elected a Lifetime Fellow of the UK-based Society for Research into Higher Education and is serving a third three-year term as a Specialist for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. She also serves on the Queen Victoria Womens Trust
and on the Editorial Boards of the journals Student Success and the US-based Teaching Inquiry.

She was previously a member of the TEQSA Panel of Experts, national Co-Chair of Universities Australia Executive Women and a member of the inaugural National Panel assessing the quality of university teaching in Ireland, the Universities Australia nominee on the Advisory Board of the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education; a Ministerial appointee on the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and Chair of the senior secondary school certification reform committee; and a non executive director on the board of Melbourne Polytechnic and Chair of the Education Quality Committee.

Professor Devlin holds a PhD in higher education (University of Melbourne); a Master of Education (Macquarie University); a Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology (Swinburne University of Technology); a Diploma in Education (La Trobe University) and a Bachelor of Arts (Australian National University). She is a registered psychologist, has completed a course in executive education at Stanford University and is a graduate of the company director's course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
