Maria Joao Antunes

Assistant Professor of Criminology, Towson University

Joan Antunes spent her childhood in Lisbon, Portugal and moved back to the U.S. to study criminology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She was awarded her Ph.D. in 2012 and joined the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice at Towson University in January 2013. Her research interests center on the intersections of neighborhood, family and youth development, with special focus on the influence of neighborhood disorder on youth violent and antisocial behavior. She currently teaches Introduction to Criminology and Theories of Crime.
