María Teresa Romero

Journalism professor specialising in International Relations, Universidad Central de Venezuela

Dr. Romero is a Venezuelan journalist and political scientist with specialization in international affairs. Dr. Romero received her B.A in Social Communication (and her Ph.D. in Political Science from Central University of Venezuela (UCV), and a Master Degree in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh, USA. From 1986 to 2013 she was Full Professor at the School of International Studies, Central University of Venezuela where she taught courses on Venezuelan Foreign Politics, US and Latin American Relations, Leadership, and International Strategic Communication.

She has been a guest lecturer and visiting professor at several Venezuelan and foreign universities, and she has also received many awards and honors, such as: the award for the U.S. Foreign Policy Summer Institute at the University of Florida . Gainsville, FL. (2009); a research award from Fundación Carolina, Universidad de Salamanca, Spain (2008); visiting professor in the Cátedra Simón Bolívar, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Venezuela (2004 – 2006); visiting professor in the Governability and International Relations graduate course, Universidad Metropolitana, Venezuela. (2004-2005); visiting scholar at Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC), Florida International University., Miami Fl. USA (2003); Visiting Professor and Research Internship in the affiliation program UCV-St. John Fisher College. Rochester, NY, USA (1999-2000).
In 1991-1992, she earned a Fulbright Research Scholarship and worked at The Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC.
She has so far published five academic books, and numerous papers and academic articles. The titles of his books are as follows: El Enigma SAC: travesía vital de Simón Alberto Consalvi (2013); Política Exterior Venezolana: El proyecto democrático, 1958-1998. ( 2002, reprint 2010); Biografía de Rómulo Betancourt. (2005, reprint 2008); Venezuela en defensa de su democracia: el caso de la Doctrina Betancourt. (2006)

Among other institutions, Dr. Romero has been a consultant and political analyst at the International area of the Democratic Unity Roundtable of Venezuela, MUD (2012-2016), the International Republican Institute, IRI (2001- 2004), the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MRE (1995- 2000), and at Petroleos de Venezuela SA, PDVSA (1991-1998). Since 2013 she is the president of DEMOACTIVA LLD, consulting firm Latin American politics and strategic communication.

She has also contributed as a columnist to many national and international newspapers. Currently, Dr. Romero leads the television program “Agenda Global” in El Venezolano TV in Miami, Fl. USA. She also is a regular columnist for the Venezuelan newspaper El Universal, and the international web pages Panampost and Infolatam.
