As well as lecturing there, Ms Anderson completed her qualifications at Monash University. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University in 1983 and a Masters in 2005.

Anderson's key interest areas in her research are the Geochemistry of Yarra Valley billabongs, Mineralogy and geomorphology of Mars and the early evolution of life.
