Senior Lecturer in Politics, Lancaster University

My research is chiefly concerned with UK Politics, with particular reference to the relationship between ideas and practice; the Conservative Party; and think tanks.

Among other books and articles, I am the co-author (with David Denver) of British General Elections since 1964 (Oxford University Press, 2014). I am currently writing a study of the coalition government with Professor Pete Dorey, and preparing the fourth edition of the textbook Exploring British Politics (Pearson).
