Mark is a Professor of Public Health Nutrition at Deakin University. He has 37 years’ experience working as an academic and practitioner in food and nutrition policy and regulation at local, state, national and international levels.
Mark’s research interests focus on investigating the science and politics of evidence use in nutrition policy-making, particularly in relation to healthy and sustainable food systems and diets, Dietary guidelines, Nutrient Reference Values and ultra-processed foods. He is leading an interdisciplinary research team investigating the reform of evidence synthesis and translation for food and nutrition policy.
Mark is a technical advisor to the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization, Member of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences Taskforce on Sustainable diets, Member of the Advisory Board for Cochrane Nutrition, Member of the FSANZ Board, and a former member of the NHMRC’s Dietary Guidelines Working Committee.
