Reader in Psychology, Manchester Metropolitan University

Dr. Martin J. Turner is a Reader in Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is a BPS Chartered and HCPC Registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist, and an Associate Fellow of the BPS. He is most known for his work applying rational emotive behaviour theory (REBT) within achievement settings, and the effects of stress and adversity on human wellbeing and performance. In his work he also examines the psychophysiology of the human stress response, and its relationship to human functioning under pressure. He holds an Advanced Practicum Certificates in REBT from the Albert Ellis Institute, who also awarded him the Albert Ellis award for research in 2018. Martin has also received an Outstanding Achievement Award for Research from the U.K. Association for REBT. He is the current Chair of the BPS West Midlands Branch. Martin has published his research widely, in over 50 peer reviewed papers, and various book chapters, and books. He is a frequent keynote/invited speaker at academic conferences and industry events, delivering CPD workshops to fellow professionals and trainees, and delivering consultancy across private and public sectors.
