Dr. Martin Turner is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Staffordshire University. He is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist and Sport Scientist, and is Chair of the British Psychological Society (BPS) West Midlands Branch. Martin leads the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Research Group at Staffordshire University. His expertise is within the psychology of performance under pressure and adversity. Primarily, his research focusses on the examination and use of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) in performance settings such as business, academia, and sport. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, media outputs (blogs, online articles, interviews) and books, alongside conference presentations and invited talks. Martin is the recipient of the 2018 Albert Ellis Research Award. He set up The Smarter Thinking Project (www.thesmarterthinkingproject.com), a public-facing website to advance and promote the research and application of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) in performance settings. Martin has also been the Lead Psychologist for the FA England Futsal Team since 2013.
