Professor emeritus, University of Hertfordshire

Professor Mary Thornton completed her Bachelor in Education (BEd) at Wall Hall in 1980. After five years as a primary school teacher in Brent she returned to the Polytechnic as a lecturer in 1985 and taught and supervised students here until her retirement in 2015.

In 2002 she became Assistant Director of the Learning and Teaching Institute based at College Lane before returning to the School of Education in 2008 as Professor of Education. She was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in 2015.
