Matthew Spittal is an Associate Professor and Australian Research Council Future Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He is a biostatistician by training. His research crosses several areas of public health and health services research. He studies (1) the epidemiology of suicide and self-harm, and (2) the role of individual practitioner performance on patient safety and quality of care. He has published a number of meta-analyses and has undertaken methodological research to better estimate pooled estimates for rare outcomes like suicide.
