Matthew Smith

Matt is an expert in British film, with a particular interest in representations of childhood onscreen. He has previously taught at the Universities of Lancaster and Liverpool and is currently lecturer in media, film & television at Edge Hill University. His first book The Child in British Cinema was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2022 and he has contributed work to the Journal of Punk and Post-Punk, The Film Education Journal and The Oxford Handbook of British Film. Increasingly, he is interested in representations of trauma and memory onscreen.
