Research Fellow and Director of Widening Participation, Lancaster University

I am a social historian of social policy in 20th century Britain and its Empire, currently working on a project exploring clinical workforce inequalities in the National Health Service (NHS). I have published research on a range of issues concerning the NHS, housing and homelessness, child protection and social work, and historic forced adoption. For the latter I submitted oral, written and supplementary evidence to the 2021-22 Joint Committee on Human Rights inquiry into the forced adoption of children of unmarried mothers from 1949 to 1976, and have made several subsequent media appearances about the failure of the UK Government to issue a formal apology to those affected.
