Zero Carbon Researcher, The University of Melbourne

Michael is a researcher at the Energy Transition Hub at the University of Melbourne. He is researching how Australia can convert its potential to generate renewable energy into energy-intensive exports. ​He was lead author of the Hub's report 'From mining to making: Australia’s future in zero-emissions metal.'

​Until May 2019 Michael Lord was Head of Research at climate think tank Beyond Zero Emissions where he explored opportunities to eliminate emissions from the manufacturing sector. He was lead author of BZE’s Electrifying Industry report showing the benefits of switching from fossil fuels renewable electricity in industrial heat processes. He also wrote Rethinking Cement – the world’s first report to show how to eliminate emissions from the cement sector, as well as 'The 10 Gigawatt Vision - How renewable energy can power jobs and investment in the Northern Territory'.
