Michael Norton obtained his BSc and PhD degrees in chemistry at Bristol University. He has worked in industry, government and academia in UK, USA and Japan. His CV includes Director of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (1989-1998), Counsellor Science and and Innovation at the British embassy in Tokyo (1998-2004), and professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Shinshu University and Tohoku University. Since 2013 he has also discharged the role of EASAC Environment Programme Director.
