Michael is a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University. Prior to joining Northumbria in January 2020, he held academic appointments at the University of Leeds and the University of Newcastle. He was awarded a PhD from Newcastle University in 2016, from where he also obtained an MBA [with distinction] in 2012. In addition to this, Michael holds an MA from Nottingham University and a BSc from The University of Hull.
Michael has conducted research on a number of topics, all of which broadly seek to understand the mutually constitutive relationship between organisations and socio-economic inequalities. Specifically, he has published articles on top executive pay, corporate governance and also, philanthropy & social entrepreneurship. Recently, Michael has been involved in an extensive research project examing the emerging global trend of participatory grantmaking.
