Michelle Eichinger

Researcher at the Institute for Environmental Studies, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Michelle Eichinger is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Environmental Geography. Prior to earning her PhD, Michelle had a career in public health in the United States. She was an administrator for the Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity Prevention Program for the Delaware Division of Public Health and subject matter expert in health in the built environment for the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Currently, Michelle coordinates the UrbanFOSC project, which examines the effect of climate change and urbanisation in urban food systems. It includes case studies in Algeria, Kenya and South Africa. In addition, Michelle applies Bayesian network modelling to identify scenarios impacting the urban food system. She also incorporates factors of health impact in urban planning research.
