Michelle Flaum (Hall), EdD, LPCC-s is a Professor in the Department of Counseling at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, a professional clinical counselor, dual-diplomate in Trauma Counseling and Integrated Behavioral Health Counseling, and a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Practitioner in private practice, Hawthorne Integrative, LLC. Co-author of the book Managing the Psychological Impact of Medical Trauma: A Guide for Mental Health and Health Care Professionals (2016; Springer Publishing), Michelle has published several articles on medical trauma and interprofessional education, and has worked with the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative and The Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Healthcare (Patient, Family, and Staff Support workgroup) to develop assessment tools to help clinicians provide improved quality of care for patients who experience medical trauma. She is a committed advocate for integrating mental health professionals into treatment teams to enhance the patient experience and improve patient care, and has developed protocols to help clinicians improve the quality of care they provide to patients who experience obstetrical trauma. Michelle has presented at national, state, and local professional conferences about PTSD-related topics in addition to medical trauma and consults with health care professionals internationally to implement medical trauma protocols.
