Post Doctoral Research Assistant, Edge Hill University

Michelle is a Post Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Social Sciences, Edge Hill University. Her current role role involves research about sexual violence in sport and the need to protect children from sexual exploitation and provide safeguarding measures.

Michelle completed her PhD in July 2017 which examined how the presence of children in theatres of armed conflict can affect military personnel and military operations. In march 2018, Michelle was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to research training for British military personnel when they encounter child soldiers and to improve safeguarding for children in conflict zones. Michelle has a keen interest in military culture, in particular the contemporary challenges facing British personnel in conflict zones, sexual violence within the military, and the use of narrative experiences in research.
