Senior Lecturer, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau

Dr Michelle Wise is the Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Auckland, and a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Auckland District Health Board. Dr Wise is leading a national research trial on induction of labour (www.oblige.auckland.ac.nz), and recently chaired the development of a clinical practice guideline on induction of labour in New Zealand. She has almost 50 peer-reviewed publications and has secured several external research grants. She lectures year 3, 4 and 5 MBChB medical students in women’s health, and is the Course Coordinator for the Year 6 students in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She regularly supervises student research projects, both summer studentships and research electives, and teaches on the Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology. Her professional interests include quality improvement (in partnership with the School of Public Health), clinical guidelines, and clinical governance, all with a focus on multi-disciplinary collaboration. Dr Wise has several national leadership roles and is often invited to speak at local and national workshops and conferences. Recently, she has been a media spokesperson for RANZCOG, educating the public about Covid-19 and pregnancy.
