Miriam C. Dobson

PhD Researcher in Urban Agriculture, University of Sheffield

I am a PhD student in the Department of Animal and Plant Sciences at the University of Sheffield, supervised by Prof. Philip Warren and Dr. Jill Edmondson. My doctoral research addresses the topics of ecosystem services and urban agriculture. I am undertaking GIS-based investigation into urban land use for agriculture; a field- and lab-based analysis of soil quality in allotments across ten British cities; and a citizen science project collecting data on energy flows in allotment practice. I am also part of the MYHarvest (Measure Your Harvest) citizen science project (www.myharvest.org.uk), producing the first national estimate of own-grown food production since the Second World War. Prior to joining the University of Sheffield, I completed an MSc in Environment, Culture and Society at the University of Edinburgh.
