Dr Mohamed Mostafa is Program Director for Software Engineering and Senior Lecturer in Data Science. Mostafa research focuses on social data science and human-computer interactions, coupled with +13 years in of industry experience in software development domain. He has authored and contributed to and several papers as well as some popular open-source data analysis software packages.
As a Lead Data/Software Scientist at Social Data Science Lab – Cardiff University for three years, lead a group of data-driven researchers to deliver a wide range of interdisciplinary social data science projects in partnership with industry and international research organisations, with the strategic aim of the Lab to provide useful and usable end-user applications as an outcome of those projects.
From 2013 to 2017 he was a lecturer in Computer Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University. He provided data science consultancy to industry to apply linguistics analysis methods to improve the performance of the ChatBots’s responses. Also, provided a consultancy service to the sports sector, as part of a funded project by World Rugby Union with the collaboration of Cardiff School of Sport and developed a web tool leveraging machine learning to predict concussion injuries in Rugby players with 75% accuracy.
Mostafa, worked closely with the public health of England to develop a data analytic tool to apply a risk analysis assessment to calculate chemical risks. Mostafa is an active data science researcher and serving as modules leader for data science modules across Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Mostafa is an official reviewer in EPJ Data Science Journal since 2017.
