Dr Muhammad Azmat is an emerging Researcher and Assistant Professor in logistics and supply chain management at the Department of Engineering Systems and Supply Chain Management at Aston University. He comes from a Business and management background, with a PhD in Logistics and Supply chain management and a master in supply chain management from a triple-accredited, Vienna University of Economics and Business. Besides, Dr Azmat is an alumnus of the University of Oxford’s Leadership Program offered by Saïd Business School. Apart from academia, as a member of the advisory board for the "Safely Advancing Autonomous Vehicles on Roads (SAVOR)" project by Conigital Group (a rapidly growing vehicle automation tech startup) and Torque Energy Consultants Ltd (a rapidly growing energy efficiency startup with a Net-Zero mission), he is playing an active role in the industry by bridging gaps between academic research and practice.

In his brief academic career, Dr Azmat has developed hybrid research interests, which fall right in the centre of supply chain management, disruptive technologies, consumer perspective and innovative business applications. He has accomplished international projects with organizations like the Federal Procurement Agency of Austria (BBG), Highway authorities and concessioners like ASFINAG (Austria), AISCAT (Italy), Brisa (Portugal), IBTTA (USA) and Not for Profit Organizations like Kühne Foundation (Switzerland). The focus of these projects was to identify the potential impact of disruptive technologies of the 21st century like electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, autonomous drones, connected vehicles, Mobility 4.0, Logistics 4.0, big data and the internet of things on different business and humanitarian sectors and their supply chains.
