Naa Oyo A. Kwate

Naa Oyo A. Kwate is an interdisciplinary social scientist with wide ranging interests in racial inequality, neighborhoods, and the African American experience. Her research has been funded by grants and fellowships from the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (FMSH), the National Institutes of Health, the Smithsonian Institution, and others. Kwate’s latest book, White Burgers, Black Cash: Fast Food from Black Exclusion to Exploitation, was published in April of 2023, and previous works include the short work, Burgers in Blackface: Anti-Black Restaurants Then and Now (2019), and The Street: A Photographic Field Guide to American Inequality (2021). She is currently writing a book about corner liquor stores in Black urban life.
