Associate professor, University of Canberra

I have been involved in research for more than 30 years with senior roles in State, Local Government and academia, especially in the application of geographic information systems (GIS). My work has spanned demography, urban/economic and social geography, urban planning, population health, the impact of the built environment on physical activity and obesity. He has been instrumental in pioneering the integration use and adaptation of government collected and maintained administrative data into GIS and developing socio-economic GIS databases for social and health research. My research is focused on the impact of place on health, especially built environment and chronic disease. I am the co-convenor of the Australian Institute of Geography Health Geography Study Group.
