Neil McGarvey is the current BA Undergraduate Politics Subject Leader at the School of Government & Public Policy, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Neil is an expert in Scottish Politics, Local Government and Public Sector Management. He has worked as a consultant to the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions, the Department for International Development, Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and Scottish Local Government Boundary Commission.

His current research involves examining the Scottish Labour Party, Migrants and the Referendum vote, local democracy and social deprivation and the impact of the UK Coalition Government beyond Westminster and the the impact of the referendum on Scottish politics.

Neil is also co-author (with Paul Cairney) of the highly acclaimed textbook Scottish Politics, a second edition of which was published in 2013 by Palgrave Macmillan). He also recently published a chapter on 'The Coalition Beyond Westminster' in Anthony Seldon and Mike Finn (eds.) (2015) The Coalition Effect. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
