Niko Besnier (@globalsportUvA) is Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, Research Professor at La Trobe University, and Fellow (2018–19) at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He has previously taught at institutions in the US, Europe, Japan, and New Zealand. His recent publications include On the Edge of the Global: Modern Anxieties in a Pacific Island Nation (Stanford, 2011), Gender on the Edge: Transgender, Gay, and Other Pacific Islanders (co-edited, Hawai'i, 2014), Crisis, Value, and Hope: Rethinking the Economy (co-edited special issue of Current Anthropology, 2014) and The Anthropology of Sport: Bodies, Borders, Biopolitics (co-authored, California, 2018; Spanish translation Siglo XXI).
