Norman K.W. Cheung

Lecturer in Hazards, Environment and Geography, The Education University of Hong Kong

Dr Cheung is an expert in environmental hazards, with abundant knowledge on typhoon, hurricane, rainstorm, monsoon, thunderstorm, flooding and their disaster management. He is a physical geographer and climatologist by training at The University of Hong Kong and University of Oxford. He has been carrying out extensive research on tropical cyclone climatology, natural hazards, risk, vulnerability, resilience and disaster management.

Between 2004 and 2015, he was Senior Lecturer in Environmental Hazards and Disaster Management at Kingston University London. He used to review articles for journals "Area" and "Geography" as well as book proposals for Oxford University Press and John Wiley & Sons. He has been regularly invited by media to give commentary on natural disasters - he appeared live on Sky News and Bloomberg TV, for example.

In mid 2015, he took on the role of Senior Catastrophe Analyst at SCOR Reinsurance Company (Asia) Ltd for China reinsurance market undertaking risk analysis on catastrophe loss and portfolio development until mid 2017. Then he joined The University of Hong Kong Science and Technology as Senior Lecturer in Environmental Risk Management.

He is currently a Lecturer at the Education University of Hong Kong.
