Lecturer in Media, Edge Hill University

Paddy Hoey is a lecturer in media and his research interests are in the areas of activist media, mediated politics, the public sphere and the internet, social media, Northern Irish politics and Irish republican activism.

His wider interests lie in the analysis of the effects of citizen and activist journalism on the public sphere, the development of new political identities online and political communication. He has published articles on Irish republican and loyalist activist media for New Hibernia Review, Cambridge Scholars Press, Kritika Kultura and University of Manchester Press.

His qualifications include:
BA (Hons) in English Literature from Queen’s University Belfast (1994)
P/G Dip in Irish Literature from the University of Ulster (1995)
MA in Journalism from Liverpool John Moores University (2005)
Post Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Liverpool Hope University (2007).
PhD completed at the Institute of Irish Studies at the University of Liverpool in January 2014
