Post-doctoral research associate, Durham University

Papreen Nahar obtained her Ph.D. degree in Medical Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She has contributed as a researcher at ICDDR,B, (http://www.icddrb.org/) between 1994-2007. Later she worked as an Assistant Professor at Dhaka University, in the Department of Women and Gender Studies, and afterwards at Independent University Bangladesh, in the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Her Ph.D. research is on the ethnography of childlessness/infertility in Bangladesh, which is the first of its kind in the South Asia region. She has also conducted research on women's reproductive health in The Netherlands and Bangladesh, as well as climatic disasters in Bangladesh.

Dr. Nahar’s research interest is on the socio-cultural, political and gender dimensions of health, particularly in developing countries and diaspora communities.
