Patryk I. Labuda is a Fellow of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Legal Studies. He was previously an Assistant Professor of (International) Criminal Law at the University of Amsterdam and a Swiss National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the New York University School of Law, the Fletcher School of Law of Diplomacy, and the University of Zurich.

A former practitioner with experience in central and north Africa, Patryk draws on interdisciplinary methods to study how international institutions interpret legal norms to achieve public policy aims. He specialises in international (criminal) law, human rights, and peace and security studies. Patryk has 14 years of work and research experience in Africa, with a regional focus on the law, politics and history of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Sudan and South Sudan. His current research focuses on the cross-regional fallout from the Russo-Ukraine war, with an emphasis on global governance and relations between the 'Global South' and the 'Global East', in particular Eastern Europe and Africa.

Patryk's first book ‘International Criminal Tribunals and Domestic Accountability: In the Court's Shadow' (Oxford University Press) was published in 2023. His work has featured in the Leiden Journal of International Law, the Yale Journal of International Law, the European Journal of International Law and the Journal of International Criminal Justice. Patryk is a regular contributor to TV, radio and podcasts. He holds a PhD from the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

Patryk I. Labuda est un chercheur à l'Académie polonaise des sciences, Institut d'études juridiques. Il était auparavant assistant professeur de droit (international) pénal à l'Université d'Amsterdam et chercheur postdoctoral du Fonds national suisse à la faculté de droit de l'Université de New York (NYU), à la Fletcher School of Law of Diplomacy et à l'Université de Zurich.

Ancien praticien ayant une expérience en Afrique du nord et central, Patryk s'appuie sur des méthodes interdisciplinaires pour étudier comment les institutions internationales interprètent les normes juridiques pour atteindre les objectifs publiques. Il se spécialise dans le droit international (pénal), les droits humains et peace and security studies. Patryk a 14 ans d'expérience de travail et de recherche en Afrique, avec un accent régional sur le droit, la politique et l'histoire de la République démocratique du Congo, de la République centrafricaine, du Soudan et du Soudan du Sud. Ses recherches actuelles portent sur les impacts trans-régionaux de la guerre en Ukraine, notamment sur le plan de la gouvernance mondiale et les relations entre le « Sud global » et « l'Est global » (surtout les pays de l'Europe de l'Est et l'Afrique).

Son premier livre « Les tribunaux pénaux internationaux et la justice nationale. Dans l'ombre de la Cour (en anglais: International Criminal Tribunals and Domestic Accountability: In the Court's Shadow » (Oxford University Press), a été publié en 2023. Ses travaux ont aussi été publiés dans le Leiden Journal of International Law, le Yale Journal of International Law, le European Journal of International Law et le Journal of International Criminal Justice. Patryk contribue régulièrement à la télévision, à la radio et aux podcasts. Il est titulaire d'un doctorat de l'Institut de hautes études internationales et de développement à Genève.
