Dr Paul Holtom’s key research interests relate to the international arms trade and strengthening arms transfer controls to combat the illicit arms trade and irresponsible arms transfers. He has recently carried out research projects to inform the negotiations on the Arms Trade Treaty, Chinese policy on exports of small arms and light weapons (SALW) and efforts to prevent illicit SALW transfers. He was the consultant for the 2013 United Nations Group of Government Experts on the Continuing Operation of the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms and its further development.
