Paula Armendariz Miranda

Ph.D. Candidate, University of Minnesota

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Dept. of Political Science. I am passionate about researching what drives individuals to prefer autocratic forms of government. My focus is on the link between personality traits, environmental stimuli and people's support (or rejection of ) autocratic forms of governance. Although my research is focused on Latin America - mostly a product of growing up in a small Latin American country who has had a troubling history with democracy - I seek to build a theory that is holistic and generalizable. Outside academia, I enjoy going to concerts, listening to music, fitness activities, and reading a good novel.
