Penny Moore is a Research Professor and DST/NRF SARChI Chair of Virus-Host Dynamics at the University of the Witwatersrand and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and a Senior Research Associate at CAPRISA, UKZN. She obtained her MSc in Microbiology at WITS, studying adenoviruses. This was followed by a PhD in Virology (Medicine) studying the Hepatitis B virus at the University of London in 2003 before returning to South Africa. Her current research focuses on immune responses to HIV, influenza and SARS-CoV-2.
