Per Berggren is the leader of the Marine MEGAfauna Lab and a senior lecturer in marine biology at Newcastle University.
His research area is conservation and management of marine megafauna populations. This includes all fields of basic biology and ecology of marine mammals and elasmobranchs, and applied science in which he develops and test new methods to address anthropogenic threats, such as fisheries bycatch. The overall aim of Berggren's research is to find practical solutions to marine megafauna conservation problems.
Berggren has studied populations of harbour porpoises, dolphin species, humpback whales, grey seals and several species of elasmobranchs.
