Senior Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs, Rutgers University - Newark

As Senior Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs and Chief of Staff at Rutgers University – Newark (RU-N), Peter Englot leads the university’s communications efforts and supports Chancellor Nancy Cantor and her leadership team in coordination of activities across their divisions. He helped conceive and execute RU-N’s first-ever strategic planning process, notable for its highly democratic structure, and co-authored the resulting strategic plan, which vigorously embraces the university’s identity as an anchor institution in Newark that has been a beacon of educational opportunity and generator of high-impact scholarship for generations. Previously, he served as Associate Vice President for Public Affairs at Syracuse University for seven years. In that capacity, he provided high-level strategic guidance on internal and external communications to help articulate the mission of the university. Over the previous 18 years he held a series of academic administrative positions in graduate affairs. He has an M.A. in linguistic studies from Syracuse and B.A. in the same discipline from Binghamton University. A fervent student of the philosophy and history of higher education, he is the co-author with Cantor of a number of journal articles and book chapters focused on re-emphasizing the public mission of American universities. He is a native of Queens, New York and proud alumnus of the New York City Public Schools; he and his five siblings are first-generation college graduates in their family. Today, he is a proud and engaged resident of Newark with his wife, Anne Schaper Englot.
