Master of University House and Professor of Forestry, Australian National University

Peter Kanowski's academic work focuses on forest and environmental governance, internationally and in Australia. His recent publications include global reviews of forest practices and of forest biodiversity conservation, analyses of plantation forestry policy and of REDD+ implementation, a critique of Australia's natural resource management programs, and reflections on sustainability education.

Peter was a Deputy Director General at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) for the two years to mid-2014. He was a member of the Steering Committee of The Forests Dialogue 2006-2012, of the 2011 Australia State of Environment Committee, and a contributor to various national and state forest and environment policy processes since 1996.
