PhD in 2001 in Social Sciences and Japanese Area Studies. Researching the social and cultural geography of Japan and East Asia. Demography, depopulation, regional studies, Japan, popular culture, employment. Occasional publications in online media such as Guardian Online, Prospect etc. Currently researching the relationship between depopulation and resource consumption trends (energy) in Japan and East Asia, as well as popular culture and employment (manga and gender segregation in employment).
