Research Affiliate in Anthropology, SOAS, University of London

I defended my PhD at Cambridge in 2019 (and graduated in 2020) in Education, with a dissertation on "Educating for the Anthropocene." I was a Gates Scholar, and have written two books (Visions of Development, Oxford University Press, 2016 and Educating for the Anthropocene, The MIT Press, forthcoming 2022).

In my current research, I ask the question ‘how can education help us deal with the Anthropocene’? I argue that environmental activism can be seen as a form of education, one that has a lot to offer to formal education systems around the globe. My broader research interests include international development, activism, ethnographic film, cinematic representations of progress, the history of South Asia and South Africa.
