Senior Lecturer: Director MSc Animation and VFX MDes Comics & Graphic Novels, University of Dundee

Phillip Vaughan is a Senior Lecturer and the Course Director for the MSc in Animation & VFX and the MDes in Comics & Graphic Novels programmes at the University of Dundee. He is also the creator and coordinator of the Level 3 Comic Art & Graphic Novels module at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. In 2015 he became the Art Director of the Dundee Comics Creative Space.

Phillip has over 20 years’ experience in CGI, working as an Animator and FMV cut-scene Producer. He has worked on high profile licenses such as Braveheart, Star Trek, Deathtrap Dungeon, Urban Chaos, Tom and Jerry, Teletubbies, and Wallace & Gromit, subsequently working as a cut-scene producer for Farscape, a Jim Henson production. He also worked on Brave and the highly successful State of Emergency franchise. Phillip has also worked as a freelance animator and comics creator. He realised a lifelong ambition and worked with the creators of Judge Dredd on a video game project for Digital Animations. Recently he completed all of the animation and front-end work on Superman for DC Comics/Warner Bros, a No.1 selling App on iOS, and also created Bantah Six, with Rossi Gifford (Spirit Leaves), for David (V for Vendetta) Lloyd’s Aces Weekly.

He is Co-Investigator on the ESRC funded project: Comic conventions: Words and Pictures: Understanding how people gather information conveyed jointly through text and image in comics. He also co-edits and produces UniVerse Publications titles such as Anthology and The Masters of UniVerse, which publishes work by comics students and is the Art Director of the Scottish Centre for Comics Studies and also DiamondSteel Comics Saltire series.
