Senior Lecturer Musical Theatre, University of Portsmouth

Dr. Phoebe Rumsey is a Senior Lecturer in Musical Theatre at the University of Portsmouth. A dancer and choreographer, her research explores dance and the body in motion in musical theatre. She received her PhD from The Graduate Center, CUNY, and holds an MA in Performance Studies from NYU. Her research has been published in The Routledge Companion to Theatre and Politics, Studies in Musical Theatre, The Routledge Companion to the Contemporary Musical and Reframing The Musical: Race, Culture, and Identity (Palgrave). She is the author of Embodied Nostalgia: Social Dance, Communities and the Choreographing of Musical Theatre forthcoming from Routledge in 2022 and Co-Editor of Dance in Musical Theatre: A History of the Body in Movement (Bloomsbury/Methuen Drama) upcoming for 2023.
